Yurt, Tipi, Gypsy Caravan, cottage and camping accommodation in the Suffolk countryside

Yurt - 16' diameter - sleeps 2-5

If you're looking for a holiday with a difference - a yurt holiday is the answer. Sleeping in a yurt is a truly magical experience - one that will stay with you forever - offering a perfect balance of luxury and rustic accommodation.

You'll be sleeping under canvas, but in a large sumptuous dome-shaped handmade wooden framed tent with solid wood floors and a real futon bed. You'll have all the comforts of soft sofas, chairs and rugs but no electricity - at night your yurt will glow by candlelight or the twinkle of solar fairy lights. And you'll have no need for a television - just lay back and watch the stars through the window ('crown') in the roof. On colder evenings you can load some logs onto your woodburner to make your yurt even cozier. It's up to you how back-to-basics you go - you could cook on the woodburner too (although we'll provide a small gas stove as well) and you'll even find a traditional washstand with jug and bowl, should you wish to start your day the old-fashioned way - using water heated on the woodburner of course! The yurts are fully equipped with bedding (except for stays of less than 3 nights), cooking utensils, wood for the woodburner and gas for the stove. Beside your yurt, which is nestled in a secluded setting amongst trees and wildflowers, you'll find a private seating area with a BBQ/brazier for cooking al fresco or just relaxing outside.

All set within a mature wildlife garden of just an acre, Alde Garden is a warm friendly site with a communal feel. Please note if you are looking for a quiet retreat or romantic break the best time to come is during the week outside of school holidays.

Our yurts are based on the traditional Mongolian 'bentwood' design, and have each been handcrafted by ourselves. We coppice the wood locally, shaping each pole using traditional hand tools then steam bending them using a rustic wood-fired steamer. We hope you will love staying in your yurt as much as we loved making it!

BARN OWL YURT

Barn Owl is a delicate yurt - handcrafted from specially chosen characterful wood. The many twists and bends in the wood give it a very romantic and rustic feel. Perfect for couples - this yurt has a rustic 4-poster bed, washstand and lots of rugs for lounging about in front of the woodburning stove. This yurt will sleep 2-4.

DRAGONFLY YURT

Dragonfly has been built with families in mind. The wood chosen to make the structure is far more substantial, yet we've still favoured the more characterful wood. There is a double bed, and we have selection of children's beds in various sizes which we will add depending on each family's needs. This yurt will sleep a family of 5.

Many thanks to Toby Fairlove (www.tfairloveyurts.co.uk) – a superb yurt maker who taught us how to make a yurt using traditional handtools.
